The Contending Views on Tithes Part 1
Christians must learn to understand the scriptures on their essence and application. Not to fall victims of manipulation of scriptures for personal satisfaction, that will make the faith loses its relevance.
We have lived beyond what is called "sacrilege" to question belief. Matthew 23:23 does not support tithing because Jesus Christ was referring to Pharisees who were under the law during his ministry which does not mean he accepted tithing.
Mat. 23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former".
It was reference he made to these Pharisees who were enjoying this privilege with hypocrisy and that is his main reasons to come and correct those errors, if not then what is the essence of his coming.
We who are now enjoying his grace after his death which brought new era of christianity, cannot claim such privileges as Pharisees. He even referred to Pharisees as anyone who cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven, when our righteousness do not exceed what they claimed.
Matthew 5:20. NIV "For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven".
As book of Acts illustrates it, the scene surrounding transitional Christianity from old testament, is well explained and the components of giving and the uses of such resources are made known to anyone who believes in the messages of Christ and his disciples.
When the Holy Spirit is elevated, giving becomes lifestyles but not imposition and persuasive from any angle. The genesis of tithes is well stated in the Bible, whether it cultural obligations to Abraham and his generations or compensation to Livities from Moses for not giving their portion of landed property or entitlement to farming and produce or to Malachi for Israelites' blessings or curses of compulsion to contribute to the necessities of the needs of priesthood or whatever.
